Our program began in 2007, with two partner schools, one staff member, and a small team of fifth and sixth graders. Today, Squash Haven is a thriving community of 160 aspiring young people in fifth grade through college and early career as well as the staff, volunteers, board members and donors that support their efforts to realize their dreams.
Team members:
- Range in age from 10-24, reflecting our commitment to work with young people through higher education and into early career
- Attend 27 New Haven public schools (highest number is at Wilbur Cross: 20)
- Live in 22 New Haven neighborhoods (great concentration in Fair Haven, 24%)
- Would largely (93%) be the first in their families to graduate from college
- Reflect a diverse range of backgrounds and lived experiences
- Share a belief in the power of their daily efforts to realize future goals for themselves, their families, and their communities
"When I came to Squash Haven, I saw an opportunity to develop a curriculum for a non-profit where we could teach the whole kid."
