Who We Are

Our program began in 2007 with two partner schools, one staff member, and a small team of fifth and sixth graders. Today, Squash Haven has a thriving community of over 160 young individuals in fifth grade through college and supports 7 full time staff members as well as part-time staff and volunteers as well. Our student base, alumni network, and team here has grown tremendously. Seeing our students begin their careers and become the active citizens they aimed to be has only inspired us to grow even more.

Our Student Demographic:

  • Range in age from 10-24, reflecting our commitment to work with young people through higher education and into early career.
  • Attend 27 New Haven public schools (our current highest number comes from Wilbur Cross: 23).
  • Live in 22 New Haven neighborhoods (with great concentration in Fair Haven, 24%).
  • Would largely (93%) be the first in their families to graduate from college.
  • Reflect a diverse range of backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Share a belief in the power of their daily efforts to realize future goals for themselves, their families, and their communities.
