Who We Are

Squash Haven is an after-school enrichment program for New Haven youth.

The program was formed in the spring of 2006. Partner schools were selected in the spring of 2007, tryouts and team selections took place in early summer, and our first season started in September 2007 at Yale’s Payne Whitney Gymnasium.

The twenty-eight 5th and 6th grade who comprise our first year team attend partner schools Edgewood and John Martinez. Team members were selected on the basis of their attitude, effort, and performance after field trips for all students to Yale, parent/family open houses, and six days of tryouts. The Squash Haven family extends well beyond the immediate team members. Families, school principals and teachers, board members, and volunteers all contribute regularly to the strength of the team experience.
