Summer 2010 Update

Squash Haven Students Continue to
Make Gains This Summer

Squash Haven students had an awesome third summer! After celebrating their accomplishments at a fourth birthday party in June, team members spent their summer building their classroom skills and keeping fit and focused on the squash court.

Academic programming was divided into week-long sessions on the following themes: note-taking and study skills, writing a thesis based non-fiction opinion paper, writing a thesis based literary analysis, parts of speech, and public speaking and debate. Some rising eighth grade students also began SSAT test preparation, while eight other team members participated in six week academic camps. On the courts, our team members have daily squash sessions and twenty lucky team members attended camps in Philadelphia, Princeton, Williamstown, Chatham, and more

Squash Haven Students Spend
a Long Weekend on Martha's Vineyard

In July, four Squash Haven students, Diovanni Prophet, Osuman Imoro, Michael Rodriguez, and Alexis Ramirez, traveled to the island of Martha's Vineyard with Squash Director John DeWitt. John and his family, who are residents of the island, hosted the kids at their house for the weekend. Favorite activities included going to the beach, sightseeing, surfing, and cooking with John's mom. After such an enjoyable weekend the kids are already looking forward to going back next year.
